Fieldays and electrical safety
In recent months we have been
asking Northlanders to take
extra care around powerlines --
particularly fallen powerlines.
The warning came after three
instances of people moving power
lines at Mangapai, Tangowahine, and
Mangakahia. Thankfully, no harm
came of these actions.
However, unfortunately there
have been examples around New
Zealand in recent years of people
being injured or killed as a result of
coming into contact with downed
Some of those victims were farmers
checking on dead cattle and not
realising the cause could be a live
powerline lying in the paddock.
So with the Northland Agricultural
Fieldays here again from March 1-3,
we want to remind our farmers and
agricultural contractors to be extra
vigilant around powerlines.
Just because they are on the ground,
it does not mean they are not live!
It is important for farmers, their
family members and staff to have a
good look at Northpower's safety
messages at its Fieldays stand. You
should never touch powerlines.
Stay well clear, keep animals and
children well clear.
If you have concerns about a
downed line or think you have found
the cause of a fault do not hesitate
to call us.
Our Fieldays location
Northpower will again be at site

Great gathering: Monique MacGregor gathered her family together
thanks to the Anchor prize.
Fun times: Monique MacGregor's
family enjoyed activities like
kayaking during the reunion.
A reunion funded by Anchor
has helped to bring an extended
family closer together.

Monique wrote a story about
her family titled My Massive
Whanau where she shared
memories of family get-
togethers long ago.
She invited about 140
members of her extended family
to the reunion held at Kokako
Lodge at Hunua Falls, south-
east of Auckland.
For three days the family
enjoyed abseiling, kayaking,
archery, high ropes, low ropes
and evening walks to see glow
Monique says the family had
hoped to gather at its marae in
Pipiwai but decided against it
in case there was a tangi which
would over-ride the reunion.
The weather was great. We
had family meetings in the
evenings to share things and we
have even decided because of
this great event we are going to
try to plan these types of things
for ourselves more often.
This was a great experience
for me to organise this huge
event pretty much solo and with
the liaising help of my husband
Rob, dad Kere and big sister
Denise, she says.
