A sport which is loved by kids
and parents alike is hoping
for more hits in Northland.
The New Zealand Badmin-
ton Academy wants to share
the joy of badminton with all
schools, Northland manager

The academy is already in
18 schools in Whangarei and
Kerikeri. It works with kids
from primaryto high school
It runs fundamental skill
classes over five weeks and
sets up badminton clubs and
development squads for chil-
dren who want to learn more.

people with students able to
learn at their own pace and

Lee says most people have
played badminton in their
backyard or at the beach. But
with the right skills, students
can quickly get into the com-
petitive side of the sport.
The academy is looking to
work with businesses to help
with badminton resources
like coaches, nets, rackets
and shuttles. Syndicates of
supporting businesses can
invest from as little as $20 a
week each, enabling the
programmes to be delivered
free at nominated schools.
The New Zealand Badmin-
ton Academy is a charitable
trust set up by Ritchie Marr,
who grew up in Maunga-
tapere and has gone on to be
one of the top New Zealand
