Quick health advice

It's just a bad rash and it
might clear up. Maybe my
child just has an awful cold
and will stop coughing by
morning. Perhaps if I lie
down for a while my head-
ache will ease.

become ill and it's after

Depending on a person's
symptoms, callers may be
encouraged to seek medical
treatment or be given advice
on how they can manage a
condition or minor injury.
Occasionally the nurse may
call 111 for them.

Others related to questions
about medicines, abdominal
pain and chest pain.

Steps to save wood pigeon
A renewed campaign will be launched
by the Northland Conservation Board
to protect the kukupa, the native wood
pigeon which is being illegally hunted
in the region's forests.
Board chairman Mita Harris has
expressed dismay that an illegal
season is again under way.
And he has appealed for a halt to
free for all'' hunting of the kukupa,
directing the call particularly at hapu.
Mr Harris says he is staggered and
saddened that annual hunting of the
bird is happening in Northland's
He asks that people consider the
impact of their actions on the
sustainability of a species which is a
treasure of the north.
At its May meeting held at
Matakohe the board agreed that before
the illegal season in March next year it
will launch a Save the Kukupa cam-
paign in Northland.
It noted the major campaign led by
former board member Kevin Prime in
the 1990s, when a promotional booklet
was developed and schools supported a
widespread campaign in Northland.
The board agreed to reactivate the
campaign and take a lead on the issue.

I'm Duke, a two-year-old huntaway
labrador cross male. I had a fine
country home where I was a working
dog and an adored family friend. But
life doesn't always pan out as we
hope and well, here I am, waiting for
my new people to find me.
I'm extremely well mannered and
affectionate -- a ''people-dog'' you
could say -- good with kids, and cats
I'd love to meet you and see if we
could be compatible companions for
a good long spell.
