Come, Christmas, Come! will be held on Saturday from 2pm at Christ Church Anglican Church in Regent. The concert will be led by new conductor Rich- ard Hancock, a retired Anglican priest with a rich and distinguished career both in the church and his musical life. The concert will start with Handel's rousing anthem Zadok the Priest. Written as a coronat- ion anthem for King George II, it was also sung at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and is appropriate to mark her 60th jubilee. This will be followed by a selection of Advent music from ancient to modern times, ranging from the 15th century piece I Sing of a Maiden, Tchaikovsky's 19th cen- tury The Crown of Roses and Donald Swann's 20th century composition The Clock Carol. But the oldest song will be from 13th cen- tury, Summer is a Com- ing In -- an appropriate choice for the southern hemisphere's Advent season. The climax of the con- cert will be Johann Sebastian Bach's cantata Sleepers Wake for Night is Flying. It is based on the par- able of the five wise and five foolish bridesmaids. Entry to the concert is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $5 for children. Christ Church is on the corner of Kamo Rd and Deveron St. Check out the blues Legendary concert: Whangarei-raised musician Chet O'Connell, left, is playing with Kiwi blues legend Midge Marsden at Reva's this Saturday from 8.30pm. The show is expected to go for three hours and tickets cost $25.
